How to Make Espresso at Home

There aren’t many individuals who do not enjoy a nice shot of espresso. Some people enjoy espresso so much that they choose to drink it everyday. Unfortunately, some of the best espresso is sold at in popular coffee shops and can begin to really hurt your wallet if you’re not careful. The good news is that you can create your own gourmet espresso at home. This is one more reason to think about getting a Dual Coffee Espresso Maker… just sayin!

It is very important not to confuse espresso with coffee. Espresso is finely ground, but not so fine that it is powdery – but almost. In order to create the perfect espresso, you’ll need some fresh beans of your choice and a grinder. You’ll also need an espresso machine. One thing to keep in mind is to make sure that you have a high-quality espresso machine. Unfortunately, these machines can bequite pricey, but are no doubt the best. Starbucks sells espresso machines on their website for as little as $399, and you can also find machines for much less than that (around $29) at places such as Walmart and Target. The less expensive machines aren’t the same as machines used in coffee shops or restaurants, and also aren’t as likely to produce the same quality. However, if you’re carefully to follow specific instruction on how to create the perfect espresso, you’ll end up with a satisfactory result that your taste buds will love.

The first step is to pour as much water as ounces of espresso you desire into your machine’s boiler chamber. Be sure that the cap is on securely as to avoid any accidents. If you want one shot of espresso, pour one ounce. For two shots, pour two ounces.

Next, place the amount of espresso coffee grounds into the filter cup. Close the lid and turn on the machine. One of the signature characteristics of espresso is the foam that forms on the top. Once the liquid begins to flow into your cup, you should notice the foam forming. As soon as the foam (also known as “crema”) begins to turn white, remove the container immediately.

Many people do not prefer to add anything to their espresso, but if you do, here are some ideas:

  • Vanilla syrup for vanilla lattes, hot chocolates, and caramel macchiatos
  • Whipped cream for topping off your espresso
  • Mocha powders for hot chocolate and cafe mochas
  • Caramel sauce for caramel macchiatos

Because the quality of the machine is such an important factor when it comes to creating the perfect shot of espresso, you may find that you must make several attempts before ending up with the result you want. It is highly recommended to purchase and grind your own beans. If you prefer not to do this, then you can always purchase individual packets of espresso that have already been pre-ground.

A popular recipe for espresso-lovers is cafe mocha. Here is how to make it:

  1. Steam milk
  2. Brew 2 ounces of espresso and pour into your cup
  3. Pour approximately 3 teaspoons of mocha powder into your cup
  4. Fill your cup 3/4 full of steam milk
  5. Top off with whip cream

Cleaning Your Coffee Maker

Coffee is one of the most favored beverages that people drink. For many people, nothing else matters in life besides coffee. Their coffee means so much to them, that they need to have it close at hand at a moment’s notice, and if they really treasure it, they will pay very good money for just a small cup. In as much as this is the case, it’s very shocking then that most people don’t put a lot of thought into cleaning their coffee maker.

The coffee maker is the machine that makes the magic happen for coffee lovers, but they don’t think about the grime, lime deposits, and the oil deposits that come from the coffee beans and that build up on the insides of the dual coffee maker. Many people are under the mistaken belief that if the coffee maker heats up water to boiling point, the water is safe to drink.

While it may not be fatal, it’s just not sanitary to drink out of a dirty coffee maker. Beyond this, if a host has company over, and they want to serve coffee, there is nothing worse than inviting company into the kitchen and allowing them to see a stained, dirty coffee maker. The guests will be turned off and uncomfortable. So how can the owners of a coffee maker make sure that their coffee maker is clean?

There are a couple of ways.

First, they need to break down the components of the coffee maker. Most home coffee makers are constructed to be taken apart for cleaning.

Next, run some vinegar through the filter, and into the coffee pot. It’s safe to use vinegar hot. It’s a food grade acid that will break down the grime, and the lime deposits. Although there are commercial lime cleansers that claim to be safe for use in coffee pots, they could be very dangerous and poisonous if ingested. Vinegar works very well as an acid, but it’s a food product, so one doesn’t have to worry about poisoning themselves, or inhaling dangerous fumes.

Next, take a cloth that has been soaked in vinegar and wipe the outsides of the coffee maker. When you have finished with all of these steps, run some clear water through the insides of the coffee maker. Then rinse off the outside components. The smell from the vinegar will go away, and the glass coffee pot can be washed out with dishsoap and water. The lime scale should go away, and the grime will have broken down as well.

The coffee maker will be sparkling clean, and it will produce coffee that tastes like it should, and that is sanitary to drink.

Two More Good Coffee Tips

A few days ago we made reference to some tips you can use to brew a better cup of coffee, and it all starts before you begin brewing. You can make a huge difference in the flavor of your coffee by following a few of these tips. Last time we talked about choosing good beans and keeping your pot/carafe clean.  So, let’s look at a couple more:

If you want a cup of high quality, exquisite tasting coffee, it is important to ensure that you use high quality water. Many individuals do not believe it, but water is an essential element when it comes to the overall taste of coffee. It is best to use mineral enriched water that is filtered. This is true whether you are brewing a whole pot of coffee or using a dual cup coffee maker.

It has been established that tap water often contains contaminants and other substances that affects the taste of the coffee that it is used in. Examples of some of the substances that may alter your coffee’s taste include sulfur and chlorine. If you desire optimal taste and quality when drinking coffee, it is essential that you focus on creating it with water that contains various minerals and is filtered.

If you would like to create an exquisite tasting cup of coffee, you should consider the way that you store the coffee that you use. Many individuals do not realize that their storage technique could affect the taste that they experience. It is important to understand that there are three factors that will affect the taste of your coffee. These factors are the amount of moisture that it is exposed to, the amount of air that reaches the coffee during storage, as well as light.

In addition to this, it has been established that if the coffee is subjected to moderate to high levels of heat, the taste associated with that coffee could be diminished. It is important to use a container that keeps air out. It is also important that you store your coffee in a dark place that is cool and dark as well. By taking this step and the other steps contained within this guide, it is possible to get a cup of great tasting quality in the comfort of your home.

Tips for a Better Cup of Coffee

Better coffee isn’t just about how you brew it. In fact, you can experience a better cup of coffee by taking care of a couple of things before you begin brewing. We have a couple of tips for you, and will include a couple more in a few days.

Individuals that have a natural passion for coffee are consistently striving to learn tips for a better cup of coffee. In the past, coffee has often been identified as a “Guilty Pleasure”, however, in recent years, medical professionals and various types of researchers have established that there are a number of health benefits associated with this popular beverage.

A special organization identified as the “National Coffee Association of U.S.A” recently released a report that states that approximately twenty billion dollars worth of coffee is sold annually throughout the United States. Considering the fact that coffee is now so popular among individuals, there are several tips for a better cup of coffee and you will be introduced to those tips in this guide.

The first tip to creating a superb cup of coffee is to ensure that you create it from fresh coffee beans. You have several options when it comes to fresh coffee. The first option is to purchase fresh coffee beans and grind them in order to create a special blend of elegance and flavor. The second option is to take the measures that are necessary to learn the process of roasting your own java.

If you elect to create coffee from fresh beans, it is important to research coffee makers that make the process relatively simple. If you are unable to obtain the dual coffee makers and devices that will assist in this process, it is important to learn everything that you are able to regarding roasting, grinding, and similar techniques.

The second tip is a simple one – clean your coffee pot/carafe well. While this may seem simple, it takes more than a swish of water to rinse out the old and put on the new. It gets to be pretty nasty, especially along the lid with hard water build up, stains, etc. It can also prevent the coffee from heating up properly. Do yourself a favor and clean the coffee pot.

Filtered Water IS The Key To Good Coffee

I don’t know how many of you travel, but one of the worst parts about traveling is drinking water from other parts of the country. It changes the flavor of everything. Coffee, tea, lemonade, whatever all tastes different depending upon the water that is being used.

The one thing that can bring it all around is using a filter on your coffee pot, or at least filling your coffee maker with clean, cold, filtered water. This is true when using something like a dual coffee maker as well. Some of the newer models come with a filter in the water chamber that you will need to change out every so often (you just need to remember to do so) :-)

Using filtered water to fill your coffee maker not only removes some of the crud that is in all tap water, but it also removes some of the bad taste that is within water. This is what many of the major soda bottling companies have to do. The have bottling plants all across the nation, but they have to have quality water filters in place in order to try and make a Coke from Texas taste the same as a Coke in Florida, California, or wherever.

So, I suggest using a filter on your tap, on your refrigerator (which is where ours is), or using something like a Britta filter. Or, go to one of your department stores and buy a coffee pot with the filter already in the water chamber. I actually use both.

The bottom line is that it doesn’t matter how great your dual coffee maker is, how many cups your dual carafe machine will hold, or even how great your coffee grounds are, if the water is bad, you’ve just made a nasty cup of coffee.
